Results

The majority of the results will be released four weeks after the date of the written exam. Any remaining results will be released during the following two weeks.

Individual candidates

Candidates now have direct access to their results via the Cambridge Assessment English Language Assessment Online Results Service. Each candidate's personal timetable will include login details and candidates will also receive an e-mail notifying them that the results release period has begun. Please note that candidates must retain their timetables until they have received their results.

English Language Preparation Centres

All Preparation Centres that register candidates for Cambridge Assessment English examinations will be able to access their students' results and Statement of Results directly on the Cambridge Assessment English Language Assessment website for Preparation Centres. Following registration, you will receive an e-mail with login details. Please note that candidates who have registered through a centre can sign up to the Online Results Service.

Certificates

If you have passed your exam, your certificate will be sent to you approximately 6 weeks after your results are released.

  • If you registered through a school or company, your certificate will be sent to your organisation.
  • If you registered as an individual candidate, your certificate will be sent to your postal address.

Young Learners

You will receive an award from Cambridge Assessment English, showing your performance in each part of the test – Listening, Reading and Writing and Speaking.

For each part of the test you get one or more Cambridge shields (up to a maximum of five) so you could get a total of 15 shields for the whole test.

Young Learner results are issued approximately eight weeks after the date of your examination. Everyone who completes their test receives an award, which focuses on what they could do (not what they couldn’t do). It gives them credit for having taken part in the test.

Extended certification

From March 2011 Cambridge Assessment English has introduced Extended Certification, which is aimed at giving many candidates additional credit for the language skills they have demonstrated in a Cambridge English examination. It also aims to help universities, employers and other organisations get a clearer picture of how candidates' results relate to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Understanding your statement of results

Cambridge Assessment English uses a new way of reporting results for their exams that will provide you with more detailed information about exam performance: the Cambridge English Scale.

The Cambridge English Scale is a range of scores used for reporting the results of the Cambridge English exams. It is designed to complement the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and allows for more straightforward results reporting across the Cambridge English exams and better meets the needs of all exam users, including candidates, teachers, universities and immigration departments.

Candidates will receive a score for each skill (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking) plus Use of English. They will also get an overall score for the exam on the Cambridge English Scale.

For further information about Cambridge English Scale results for particular exams, please visit the Cambridge Assessment English website.

Results enquiries

If you feel that your exam was unfairly marked, Cambridge Assessment English has a rigorous and thorough Result Enquiry Procedure to ensure all components are checked and, if requested, re-marked.

If you want to query your result, please complete the Results Enquiries Form that can be found in the downloads section below, submit the completed form to your exam centre and pay the required fee mentioned on the form.

There are two different stages that can be requested:

Stage What is the enquiry process? How long does it take?
Stage 1 A full clerical re-check Within approximately five working days of receiving the request
Stage 2 A re-mark of written papers (including review of the Listening paper where relevant, but does not apply to any Speaking test component). This excludes Cambridge English: Key (KET) and Cambridge English: Key (KET) for Schools The outcome of the enquiry will be sent within three weeks

We recommend to send in any results enquiries within two weeks after your exam, but the form will be accepted and processed as long as it is received and confirmed before the deadline mentioned in the result notification e-mail sent out by Cambridge Assessment English for your exam.

It is not possible to query speaking paper results. More information can be found on the Cambridge Assessment English website: www.cambridgeenglish.org/help/enquiries-and-appeals/

Name amendments

Name amendments on your certificate can be requested within two years of the date of the Cambridge Assessment English exam. If the request is made within six months, the request is free of charge. Otherwise, an admin fee of €94 will apply. The incorrect certificate will need to be returned before a new one can be produced. If you want to request a name amendment, please get in touch with your British Council exam centre.

If candidates have changed their name by deed poll or for reasons of marriage or divorce, the name on the certificate cannot be amended. The name on the certificate must reflect the name at the time the candidate sat the exam.

Replacement certificates

If your certificate has been damaged a duplicate copy can be issued in the following cases:

  • If the original (damaged) certificate is returned.
  • This service is free if the request is made within six months of the certificate being issued by Cambridge Assessment English. If it is after the six months the appropriate fee of €94 will need to be paid.
  • The application is made no more than five years after the certificate is issued. After this time it is only possible to apply for a Certifying Statement.

If you want to request a replacement certificate, please get in touch with your British Council exam centre.

If a candidate has lost or mislaid their original certificate and need proof of their result, they can apply for a Certifying Statement. These requests can go through Cambridge Assessment English by filling in the required form: https://certstat.cambridgeenglish.org

It is also possible to request a Certifying Statement through your British Council exam centre but extra costs will be charged. For more information on this, please contact your British Council exam centre.
