Sabine Vreeburg

Sabine Vreeburg

Already at young age Sabine’s favourite sentences started with “Why?”, and she is happy that, as a PhD candidate, she got to make her job out of asking questions. In her current research project ‘Re-domesticating an ancient domesticated fungus’ she studies the intriguing relationship between farming termites and their fungi. Next to being a scientist, Sabine is also a mum. Luckily, her baby son is just as curious as she is and she loves helping him to explore the world.

Lianne studied Medicine at the University of Maastricht. After obtaining her medical doctor degree in 2016, she started as a PhD candidate for the pediatric surgery at the Princess Máxima Center for pediatric cancer in Utrecht. After swimming with bioluminescent plankton in Panama, she got curious at the role of fluorescence-guided surgery in the medical world. Lianne’s aim is to improve the vision of surgeons by implanting new imaging strategies.
